How to Get Motivated to Change

I am going to write about how to get motivated to change.

How to get motivated to lose weight and exercise

Vegetable salad
Vegetable salad

You can start by asking yourself, why would you want to lose weight and exercise? If you are overweight or obese, you would desire to exercise and weigh less because of feeling lighter, diminution of stress, diminution of arthralgia (joint pain), improved quality of sleep, enhanced mood, improved thyroid gland function, enhanced libido, healthier skin complexion, improved physical appearance, improved concentration and memory, improved immune system, increased metabolism, cardioprotection, reduction in allergy symptoms, reduction in anxiety and depression, increase in energy, increase in self-confidence, reduction in leading a sedentary lifestyle, increase in leading a more active and adventurous lifestyle and a reduction in morbidity and mortality.

What would you want to do to lose weight and exercise? The next step you would take is to write down on a piece of paper your daily realistic mini goals, weekly goals and monthly goals. You would write down your daily goals the night before for the following day and so on. You need to execute your daily mini goals to the best of your ability. Over time your daily goals become weekly goals and your weekly goals become monthly goals. Building and belonging to a supportive group of like-minded people would be of great benefit to you and also would help others to grow. You need to embrace your imperfections and not be ashamed of them. You need to have a positive attitude and remain consistent, persistent and show perseveration in achieving your daily goals. Be proud of all your achievements and don’t allow any negative thoughts to alter your progress.

How to get motivated to succeed

A child reading a book
A child reading a book

You need to ask yourself, why do I want to succeed at anything? You want to succeed because you want to have a greater earning income potential, improved self-confidence, better self-esteem, increased potential to help others grow and succeed, possess positive beliefs about yourself, eliminate all negative beliefs, embrace all of your imperfections and exert a positive lasting effect on mankind.

Ask yourself, what would you want to do to succeed at anything? Again, you would want to write down on a piece of paper your daily, weekly goals, and monthly goals, and carry them out to the best of your ability. Whether you want to be a physician, lawyer, architect, plumber, electrician, physical therapist, auto mechanic, pilot, writer, etc.; what matters is whoever you want to be, you want to be the best you can be. You need to find your gift that you were born with. What is it that you love to do? You feel happy when you love what you do.

How to get motivated to write

Notebook
Notebook

Ask yourself, why do you want to write? You want to write because you want to become more skilled at writing for yourself; you want to help others solve their problem; you want to make a positive change in people’s lives; you want to share the knowledge you possess with others; you want to change the world for the better; you want to write what you know and are passionate about; you’re a voracious reader and you want to request comments and listen to audience’s feedback.

Ask yourself, what do you need to do to get motivated to write? Again, you want to write down on a piece of paper your daily, weekly, and monthly goals and put into effect a course of action to complete them to the best of your ability.

How to motivate your child to read

A young child with a book
A young child with a book

You need to set aside a time for reading with your child. Let your child know ahead of time what to expect. Commence reading to your child at an early age. When you are reading to your child, be mindful that what you say is not as important as HOW you say it. It’s advisable to be in a happy mood. Be sure to supply your child’s room with books. You should become a great reading “role model” for your child. As the child grows introduce him/her to books that meet their hobbies and interests. Inspire your child to find new books to read on their own. Introduce your child to the library to get their own library card and discover a new wealth of information. Select books about subjects your child loves. Make certain your child sees you reading regularly. This will help your child appreciate the relevance of reading in their everyday life. It is important for your child to see you reading for relaxation and pleasure, as well as for valuable information.

Create reading time for all family members to participate throughout the day and every day. Show how important reading is to you, by spending time together with your child reading with enthusiasm, to help your child learn that reading is relaxing and gratifying. Read together with a reason. Cultivate a positive and enthusiastic atmosphere. Allow and encourage your child to express his or her own feelings, thoughts, and opinions. Encourage your child to make choices. Find out your child’s interests and be passionate about them. Discuss topics that are captivating to your child. Discuss the various ways to find new information. Invigorate and nurture your child’s problem-solving skills and creative expression through encouragement to play with children’s blocks.

Inquire about your child’s learning in school rather than his or her grades. Show interest in helping your child with an organization of his or her school paperwork. Acknowledge and celebrate your child’s accomplishments regardless how small. By providing positive reinforcement a child feels praised for the work he/she did, and therefore, feels stimulated to do more in the future and expect the similar positive experience. Through praise and positive reinforcement, children learn useful habits which will prove to be valuable throughout life. You should focus on child’s strengths and assets rather than on weakness or weaknesses. If the child did not do well on a math test, he or she may have done well on reading, praise the child for the latter, and as far as math is concerned, offer help for the child to do better next time. Always praise the child and never criticize for their performance.

How do children know what they are learning

A child carrying a bottle of water on his head
A child carrying a bottle of water on his head

Children know what they are learning through understanding of biological concepts, comprehension of numbers, and early awareness of physics. This understanding occurs through observation, exploration, creation, listening, asking questions and experimenting. Children’s cognitive ability to perform any task from the most simple to the most complex is dependent upon their cognitive development. Exercise has been found to improve cognitive function better than reading books and/or solving puzzles. Children experience learning through playing with other children; they learn to get along with each other. Other examples include problem-solving, learning a different language at home, remembering, paying attention, etc. There will be times when your child will need emotional support for learning. It’s important to notice when your child is upset about some task, offer your help if necessary. Share in his excitement by showing your appreciation for his accomplishments.

Why Take Magnesium

I am going to write about the advantages and disadvantages of magnesium.

Why take magnesium?

Magnesium
Magnesium

You need to take magnesium for correction or prevention of hypomagnesemia (magnesium deficiency). Magnesium is important as a metallic ion necessary to participate in many enzymatic reactions in the body involving the formation of proteins and breakdown of carbohydrates – at minimum 300 enzymatic reactions require magnesium.

Magnesium acts on lipoprotein lipase enzyme to reduce serum cholesterol. Magnesium also acts upon sodium/potassium ATPase enzyme in promoting polarization such as neuromuscular functioning. The normal serum magnesium level is between 1.5 and 2.5 milligrams per deciliter. The majority of magnesium is found in the cells therefore, serum magnesium is a poor reflection of repletion status. Your goal is to aim for high normal serum levels of magnesium provided that you have a normal renal function.

Advantages of taking magnesium

Magnesium is used for lowering of high blood pressure, promotes normal bone formation including teeth, normal bowel function, metabolism of simple and complex sugars, reduction of cholesterol, protein synthesis, prevention of stroke, prevention of myocardial infarction, relaxation of vascular smooth muscle, vitamin D may increase the serum concentration of magnesium, magnesium may enhance the neuromuscular-blocking effect of neuromuscular-blocking medications, administer oral phosphate supplements as far apart as possible from administration of an oral magnesium salt because magnesium salts may reduce the serum concentration of phosphate supplements, magnesium helps to keep calcium inside the cell and by doing so acts like a nutritional calcium channel blocker used in the treatment of high blood pressure, coronary artery disease and atrial fibrillation. Hypomagnesemia (low serum level of magnesium) manifestations can stem from none to severe. Severe symptoms of hypomagnesemia can manifest as tetany, cardiac arrhythmias or seizures. The risk factors for hypomagnesemia include chronic diarrhea, proton pump inhibitor medication use, alcoholism, diuretic use or with clinical manifestations of hypomagnesemia (low serum level of magnesium) which include unexplained hypocalcemia (low serum level of calcium), refractory hypokalemia (low serum level of potassium), neuromuscular disturbances and ventricular arrhythmias.

Synergism between magnesium, calcium, vitamin D3 and vitamin K2

Magnesium, calcium, vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 act synergistically in augmenting the bone mineral density of the lumbar spine in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. From the clinical standpoint, vitamin K2 supports the lumbar bone mineral density and precludes osteoporotic fractures in elderly patients with osteoporosis, prevents fractures of vertebrae in patients with steroid-induced osteoporosis and augments the metacarpal bone mineral density in the paralyzed upper extremities of patients with stroke. Vitamin K deficiency, as indicated by an augmented circulating level of undercarboxylated osteocalcin (bone matrix protein produced by osteoblasts that dissolute and absorbs bone – osteoblasts (cells that produce bone) manufacture osteocalcin and assimilate it into the bone matrix. It’s important to know the significance of the appropriate balance between magnesium, calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K2. If you have a deficiency of vitamin K2, taking calcium supplements can cause you more problems than they solve by depositing in the wrong places. Taking high doses of vitamin D without satisfactory amounts of vitamin K2 can induce symptoms of vitamin D toxicity including calcification in inappropriate places such as blood vessels.

Disadvantages of taking magnesium

Kidney failure
Kidney failure

Magnesium toxicity may occur in presence of renal impairment therefore, caution is advised. You should use extreme caution using magnesium in patients with myasthenia gravis or another neuromuscular disease. Magnesium toxicity can cause fatal cardiac arrest and/or paralysis of respiration. Concurrent low potassium or low calcium levels can accompany a low magnesium level. Low magnesium is associated with low potassium and requires repletion in order to normalize potassium. Intravenous magnesium product may contain aluminum and toxic aluminum concentrations may occur with high doses, prolonged use or kidney failure. Some magnesium products may contain benzyl alcohol; large amounts of which have been associated with a potentially fatal toxicity such as gasping syndrome in neonates. The gasping syndrome consists of metabolic acidosis, gasping breaths, respiratory distress, central nervous system dysfunction including convulsions and intracerebral hemorrhage, low blood pressure and cardiovascular arrest. Severe hypermagnesemia ( high serum level of magnesium) can occur if you ingest antacids containing magnesium or laxatives containing magnesium in presence of renal impairment. Hypermagnesemia (high serum level of magnesium) manifestations are: neuromuscular toxicity( the most common complication of hypermagnesemia), nausea, vomiting, flushing, diminished deep tendon reflexes, somnolence, loss of deep tendon reflexes, muscle paralysis, low heart rate, low blood pressure, different degrees of heart block progressing to complete heart block and cardiac arrest.

Dietary sources of magnesium

Whole grains (whole wheat, oats, rye, barley, brown rice, wild rice), legumes (alfalfa, clover, peas, beans, chickpeas, lentils) and dark green leafy vegetables (dark green lettuces such as green leaf, arugula, romaine) and seaweed are dietary sources of magnesium.

Summary

It’s important to know that magnesium is a very special mineral, in comparison to other ions, magnesium is treated by the body as an orphan; there are no hormones that have a significant role in controlling urinary magnesium excretion and extraction from the bone. There are many forms of magnesium supplements on the market. The list consists of Magnesium citrate, magnesium carbonate, and magnesium glycinate. Other forms of magnesium include magnesium oxide, magnesium chloride, magnesium sulfate, magnesium taurate and magnesium threonate. Magnesium glycinate (a chelated form of magnesium) is absorbed very well and it is an ideal form of magnesium to take for repletion of body stores. Magnesium carbonate is used as an antacid to neutralize the acid in the stomach from heartburn and GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Magnesium citrate contains citric acid and is used as a laxative. Magnesium oxide is a non-chelated form of magnesium and is poorly tolerated by some patients. Magnesium chloride has better absorption than magnesium oxide and is used to treat patients with hypomagnesemia (low serum magnesium level). Magnesium sulfate and magnesium hydroxide are components of milk of magnesia and are generally used as a laxative.

Magnesium taurate contains an amino acid taurine which has a calming effect on the body. Magnesium threonate is a chelated form of magnesium, crosses the blood-brain barrier and enhances learning and memory functions by exerting its beneficial effect on synaptic plasticity and density. When it comes to dosing it is important to maintain an acceptable balance between magnesium, calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K2.

It’s of utmost importance that your kidney function is normal.

I would like to know your opinion, what you like, what you don’t like, which supplement you would like me to write about and all of your questions that you may have for me.
